Owen
Owen’s job is to keep track of how the company’s infrastructure is configured and of every date that is about to run out.
On this page
What Owen does
- Infrastructure configuration in the repository: Terraform, CloudFormation and Dockerfiles
- An end-of-life calendar for runtimes, databases and services
- Certificates, domains and access keys about to expire
- Databases that are public, not backed up or not protected from deletion, and backup plans that never ran
What you can ask
You ask Grant, and he brings in Owen for questions like these.
- “What reaches end of life in the next six months?”
- “Which certificates or domains expire soon?”
- “Which databases are public or not backed up?”
- “Is our PostgreSQL version still supported?”
What you get
PostgreSQL 13 on the orders database reaches the end of standard support in 41 days; after that AWS charges for Extended Support. The certificate for api.example.com expires in 12 days and is eligible for automatic renewal.
What Owen reads
- Repository context
- World State changes
- AWS inventory
- AWS security posture
When Owen works
At each scheduled check-in, on pushes and when you ask Grant.
What Owen may do
Read-only: reads the approved sources and reports findings.
What Owen never does
- Run Terraform or change infrastructure
- Treat a repository file as proof of what is deployed
- Guess which live resource a piece of code belongs to
